Products Description

Cyclohexanone is an organic compound with the formula (CH2)5CO, which is a saturated cycloketone with carbonyl carbon atoms included in a six-membered ring. Colorless transparent liquid with an earthy smell and a minty taste when containing traces of phenol. Impurity is light yellow, with the storage time to generate impurities and color, water white to grayish yellow, with a strong pungent odor. Slightly soluble in water, can be miscible in alcohol, ether, benzene, acetone and other organic solvents. Mixed with air the explosive electrode is the same as the open chain saturated ketone.

Cyclohexanone is flammable and has the danger of burning in case of high heat and open flame. Contact with an oxidizing agent can cause violent reactions. In case of high heat, the pressure inside the container increases, and there is a risk of cracking and explosion. Same as open chain saturated ketones. It can be oxidized by air, oxygen or nitric acid in the presence of catalyst to produce HOOC(CH2)4COOH adipate. Cyclohexanone oxime rearranges to caprolactam under the action of acid. They are raw materials for making nylon 66 and nylon 6 respectively. Cyclohexanone is prone to self-condensation in the presence of base. It also reacts easily with acetylene. It was first obtained by distillation of calcium heptadecate. The mass production of cyclohexanone is hydrogenated with phenol and then oxidized.

Cyclohexanone is an important chemical raw material and industrial solvent, and is the main intermediate in the manufacture of nylon, caprolactam and adipic acid. It is also an important industrial solvent, such as for paints, especially those containing nitrocellulose, vinyl chloride polymers and their copolymers or methacrylate polymers. Excellent solvent for pesticides such as organophosphorus insecticides and many analogues, as a solvent for dyes, as a viscous solvent for piston-type aviation lubricants, as a solvent for grease, wax and rubber. It is also used as a homogenizing agent for dyeing and fading silk, a degreasing agent for polishing metal, and a coloring and painting agent for wood.
